Triangles

Today we used clay and paperclips to study the attributes of triangles. We attempted to draw various combinations of types of triangles. Is it possible to make an obtuse, scalene triangle? How about a triangle that is both equilateral and right? Kids had fun working with this medium and learned a lot about triangles at the same time!

Since it was Wacky Wednesday during Skillin School Spirit Week, we played the silliest morning meeting game yet called "The Clown Got Sick." This game is a perfect one to get the sillies out, plus it works on memory.

Beach Ball Multiplication 3/9/15

Spring Fever has officially kicked in! This week at morning meeting students dreamed of beach weather while practicing multiplication facts during a game of Beach Ball Multiplication.

Fraction Fun - 3/12/15

Students practiced in a variety of ways for the first fraction assessment. They were given a quick formative assessment just to see what they still needed to practice. Then they were allowed to choose various activities to practice those particular skills.

About Me

My photo
I live in Cape Elizabeth with my husband, two daughters, and our cat Nessie. Our family loves to spend time outdoors together, camping, hiking, and gardening. Another past time of mine is triathlons. I have completed nine triathlons, including one Half Ironman. I loved swimming, biking, and running 70.3 miles! You might also find me cozied up with a good book in my free time. I have been teaching for 10 years in a variety of grade levels. Fifth grade is my favorite! The kids are capable of so much! I can't say I have a favorite subject to teach, but love getting students to think deeply. I enjoy getting kids to think critically and be creative in all subject areas. I often use simulations and project based learning to do this. Teambuilding and working on social skills in another major goal of mine. Teaching kids to work effectively together and use good communication skills will help prepare them for life after school.
